On the 16th of April the first and second form of our school visited the Stadtkino in Hallein to see the English play “Sacrifice” by Claudia Leaf. The play is about four teenagers named Beth, Jake, Liam and Josh. In the English lessons before we went to the theatre we had read the text, so we knew what the play was about … (Christina, Eva, Lisa, Mio, Djordje, Martina)

What was the play about?

The main characters are Beth and Jake, 16 and 17 years old, both intelligent young people from a middle-class background, and Josh and Liam, both 15 years old and from a working class background.

Beth is making a music video clip for Jake´s goth band. The title of the song is `Sacrifice´ - and the video clip should be about a dark human sacrifice. Beth and Jake are in a park, filming and talking when Liam and Josh show up. Both boys are very drunk and they start an argument. The atmosphere is getting tense, and when Jake takes out the knife they had used as a prop for the video clip Josh grabs the knife from Jake and stabs him.

In the end Beth shows her real feelings for Jake and they fall in love with each other. (Simon Rettenbacher, Florian Huber)

How did we like the play and the acting?

Beth had the most acting to do and we think she had a very clear voice that everybody could hear beautifully. The actor who played Jake suited the part. We also liked Jake´s outfit and we think he was very convincing as the lead singer of a goth band. Liam was very cool but in our opinion the acting was a bit exaggerated and funny.
